'Avatar: Aang - The Last Airbender' will get a one-week, awards-qualifying theatrical run from July 24 to July 30, Variety reported exclusively. Although the film is primarily a streaming release, with its Paramount+ debut set for July 25, it will screen in select cinemas with three showtimes per day at the AMC Burbank Town Center 6 in Los Angeles and the AMC Empire 25 in Manhattan, according to Variety. The limited run signals that Paramount is likely to campaign Avatar Aang for next year's Oscar for best animated feature and other accolades, Variety reported. Tickets for the theatrical engagement go on sale July 16 at 9 a.m. ET / 6 a.m. PT, and the film will also receive a screening at San Diego Comic-Con on July 24, Variety said. The feature is the first output of Avatar Studios, which launched at Paramount in 2021 with plans to produce and distribute theatrical films alongside streaming and linear TV series, Variety noted. Though the movie was initially set to hit theaters in October, Paramount+ later became the exclusive distributor of all Avatar Studios content, per Variety. The voice cast includes Eric Nam as Aang, Dave Bautista as Tagah, Jessica Matten as Katara, Roman Zaragoza as Sokka, Steven Yeun as Zuko, and Dionne Quan as Toph, Variety reported. The film was directed by Lauren Montgomery and co-directed by Steve Ahn and William Mata, and is produced by Avatar: The Last Airbender creators Bryan Konietzko and Michael Dante DiMartino alongside Latifa Ouaou and Maryann Garger, according to Variety. The original Avatar: The Last Airbender premiered on Nickelodeon in 2005 and ran for three seasons; it is widely regarded as one of the greatest animated series of all time and was followed by the sequel series The Legend of Korra, which premiered in 2012 and ran for four seasons, Variety wrote.
