CAIRO — Afreximbank is placing a growing emphasis on trade between African economies, according to The EastAfrican.
The report said the pan-African lender is expanding financing and guarantees aimed at boosting commerce among African states rather than only with external partners. Afreximbank has positioned itself as a key backer of the African Continental Free Trade Area (AfCFTA), The EastAfrican reported.
The bank has in recent years launched initiatives to support local currency settlements and cross-border payment corridors, the report noted. Such measures are intended to reduce reliance on hard-currency transactions that can raise costs for African businesses.
The EastAfrican said the push reflects a broader strategy to deepen regional value chains. Afreximbank did not comment further in the report.
