Milk recall: Graham's Family Dairy pulls Tesco, Asda and Morrisons milk over penicillin fears

UK shoppers are being told to check their fridges after Graham's Family Dairy issued an urgent recall of semi-skimmed milk over the possible presence of veterinary medicines.

The recall covers semi-skimmed milk with a use-by date of 31 July 2026, in one-litre, two-litre and single-pint sizes. Food Standards Scotland said the product may contain antibiotic residues, which could make it unsafe for anyone with an allergy to antibiotics, including penicillin.

The affected milk was sold across several major supermarkets. According to the recall notice, specific batches went on sale at Tesco, Asda, Morrisons, Sainsbury's, Waitrose, Home Bargains and Spar.

For most people, the traces involved are not expected to cause harm. The specific risk is to those with a penicillin or antibiotic allergy, for whom even small amounts can trigger a reaction. Anyone in that group is being told not to drink the milk.

Checking is straightforward: if a pack is semi-skimmed milk in a one-litre, two-litre or single-pint size and carries a use-by date of 31 July 2026, it falls within the recall.

Shoppers who have bought the affected milk are being asked to return it to the store where they purchased it for a full refund. A receipt is not usually required for a food-safety recall of this kind.

Veterinary-medicine residues can enter the milk supply when milk from a treated cow is not properly separated out. Recalls like this reflect the layered checks built into the food system — and the caution regulators apply the moment a potential allergen slips through.
