LONDON — Arsenal have completed the signing of Spain under-21 international Cristhian Mosquera from Valencia on a long-term contract, the club announced on Friday.
The 21-year-old defender arrives from Valencia, where he made 90 appearances in all competitions. Mosquera joined the Spanish club's academy at 12 and made his first-team debut in the Copa del Rey in January 2022, aged 17, before featuring in La Liga days later. He was promoted to the senior squad ahead of 2023/24 and started 37 of 38 league matches last season.
Sporting Director Andrea Berta said the club had "signed a hugely talented young player" identified as "one of the strongest young defenders in European football." Manager Mikel Arteta welcomed Mosquera as "an intelligent player with good pace" who would "fit well into our squad."
Mosquera will wear the number 3 shirt and link up with the squad on Arsenal's men's pre-season tour in Asia. The transfer remains subject to the completion of regulatory processes, Arsenal said.
The Cristhian Mosquera Arsenal signing continues the club's summer recruitment drive and underlines the Premier League's sustained recruitment of established La Liga talent.
**Global angle:** The deal reflects a wider trend of Europe's top leagues buying proven young defenders from Spain's top flight; Arsenal's rebuild under Arteta is being watched across the continent ahead of 2026/27.
