LAS VEGAS — Max Holloway defeated Conor McGregor by technical knockout (knee injury) 1:09 into the first round of their UFC 329 welterweight main event at the T-Mobile Arena here on Saturday, July 11, 2026, according to the UFC's official results page and MMA Fighting.
McGregor, making his first Octagon appearance in more than five years, injured his knee attempting a jumping kick at the opening bell. The Irishman tried to continue but stumbled twice before referee Mike Beltran waved off the bout, handing Holloway a stoppage win and avenging his earlier loss to "The Notorious."
In the co-main event, Britain's Paddy Pimblett submitted France's Benoit Saint Denis with a first-round D'Arce choke at 0:52. Robert Whittaker (third-round TKO of Nikita Krylov) and Olympic wrestler Gable Steveson (first-round KO on his debut) were among other winners on a card that produced 11 finishes from 13 bouts.
The result extends Holloway's resurgence and fuels talk of a lightweight title meeting with Justin Gaethje, whom UFC president Dana White referenced post-fight. McGregor's long-awaited return ends in injury and raises fresh questions over his future.
## Wider Relevance
The card underlined the UFC's continued pull as a global combat-sports draw, with pay-per-view interest concentrated on McGregor's return. Related coverage: [UFC Baku results](/sport/ufc-baku-results-2026), [Pimblett vs Saint Denis breakdown](/sport/paddy-pimblett-saint-denis-ufc-329).
