LONDON — West Ham United captain Jarrod Bowen has publicly committed his future to the east London club, effectively ending Manchester United's pursuit of the forward in the summer transfer window, according to the Manchester Evening News.
Bowen, 29, appeared in a video posted by West Ham in which he outlined his determination to help the club win promotion from the Championship following its relegation from the Premier League. "It was a no-brainer for me to be here and the vision is clear, it's the Premier League," Bowen told the club's media.
The Athletic reported on 17 July that Bowen has signed fresh terms with West Ham. The new agreement does not extend beyond his existing contract, which runs to 2030, but confirms he will not leave this summer, the report said.
United had been linked with Bowen after West Ham's drop to the second tier, alongside a host of other clubs. The club has signed three players so far this window — midfielders Andrey Santos and Youri Tielemans and goalkeeper Karl Darlow — and continues to monitor winger Crysencio Summerville, according to the Manchester Evening News.
The decision underscores the sporting and financial toll of Premier League relegation, where a club captain's public commitment becomes necessary to fend off interest from a wealthier rival.
