Nvidia moves into PC processors, teaming with Microsoft, Dell and HP to challenge Intel and AMD

Nvidia is pushing into the personal computer processor market for the first time at scale, unveiling a new lineup of AI-focused "agent PCs" built in partnership with Microsoft, Dell and HP — a direct challenge to the roughly $200 billion CPU market long dominated by Intel and AMD.
The new machines pair Nvidia's chip design expertise, honed over more than a decade of dominance in graphics and AI-accelerator hardware, with Microsoft's Windows platform and the manufacturing and distribution reach of Dell and HP, two of the largest PC makers in the world. Nvidia has described the effort as targeting a new category of "agent PCs" — machines built from the ground up to run AI assistants and automated software agents locally on the device, rather than relying solely on cloud data centers for that processing.
The strategic logic is straightforward: Nvidia already sits at the center of the AI boom through its dominance in the data-center GPU market, where its chips power the vast majority of large-scale AI model training and inference. Extending that position down into consumer and business PCs would let the company capture value across the entire AI computing stack, from the cloud to the desktop, at a moment when PC makers are racing to differentiate new laptops and desktops around on-device AI features.
For Intel and AMD, the move represents a serious new competitive threat in a market segment — general-purpose PC CPUs — that Intel in particular has dominated for decades and that has become an increasingly important source of revenue as both companies contend with slower growth in their traditional server and PC businesses. Nvidia's partnerships with Microsoft, Dell and HP give it immediate access to distribution channels and operating-system integration that would otherwise take years to build from scratch, potentially compressing the timeline for it to become a credible third option in a market that has had only two major players for a generation.
The announcement lands amid a broader wave of aggressive AI infrastructure investment across the technology sector. Data center operators have been raising unprecedented sums to fund the buildout of AI computing capacity — one recent example being data-center operator Switch's roughly $768 million asset-backed securities offering — while major cloud providers continue to pour billions into AI infrastructure even as investors and regulators increasingly scrutinize the pace and sustainability of that spending.
Analysts say the success of Nvidia's PC push will depend heavily on whether "agent PC" features — on-device AI assistants capable of handling complex, multi-step tasks without constant cloud connectivity — prove compelling enough to drive a genuine upgrade cycle, rather than becoming another underused feature bundled into new hardware. Previous rounds of AI-branded PC marketing, including earlier "AI PC" pushes built around neural processing units, have had mixed success in convincing consumers to pay a premium.
Nvidia has not disclosed detailed pricing or a specific launch date for the new lineup, but the involvement of Dell and HP suggests the first agent PCs built on Nvidia silicon could reach the market within the product cycles those manufacturers typically plan around new component partnerships — generally within the coming year.
